https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVxk7b9HigM&feature=player_embedded They love it! Seeing someone their age painting and being a famous artist just blows their minds. I love how creative they get and the freedom they have painting this way. I also play Beethoven's 5th Symphony while they paint because that is what Yani listened to as well.
Third graders learned all about crocodiles! Did you know crocodiles can have up to 30 sets of teeth in their lifetime? Once a tooth falls out, another grows right back in! They also have very good hearing, and can roar like a lion! These are just a few of the interesting facts they learned. Third graders first drew an aerial view of a crocodile from cardboard and then cut it out and traced it a second time and cut it out. They taped these two pieces together and stuffed it with newspaper. Next, they did two layers of paper mache with newspaper and then with construction paper. Lastly, they painted on some details with tempera paint. They did a great job and turned out awesome!
Dale Chihuly is a sculptor who works with blown glass. He studied sculpture in Madison, Wisconsin. 4th Graders learned about the art of blowing glass. Chihuly has created a blown glass art form that he calls Ikebanas. 4th graders made Ikebanas out of recycled water bottles and tissue paper. They created flowers and other details to create the same swirly effect that Chihuly’s glass pieces create.
